permanent illness or otherwise the Government may

determine this Agreement either by giving three

months' notice in writing or three months' pay in

lieu thereof at their option in which case the

Resident Engineer shall be entitled to the homeward

passages as provided for in Clause 3 if all proceed

home forthwith.

For all and every the purposes of this Agreement all

notices shall be deemed to have been received by the

party to whom the same may be sent or addressed on

the date when the same would in the usual course of

post if posted or of telegraph if cabled or telegraph-

ed have reached such party's place of address and time

shall commence to run from that date accordingly.

The Government shall during the currency of this

Agreement pay to the resident Engineer a salary at the

rate of Two Thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds

sterling per annum from the date of his arrival in the

Colony and from the date of his departure from London

up to the time of his arrival in the Colony a salary

at the rate of One Thousand three hundred and seventy-

five pounds sterling per annum but such rate shall not

extend over a period greater than one calendar month

The salary at the rate of Two thousand seven hundred

and fifty pounds sterling per annum shall be paid

monthly the first payment to be made being at the and

of the calendar month during which the Resident

Engineer shall arrive in the Colony and thereafter at

the end of each calendar month and the salary at the

rate of Une thousand three hundred and seventyfive pounds sterhing per annum for a period not exceeding

one calendar month shall be paid within one week of

the arrival of the Resident Engineer in the Colony
